How to Prepare for Matillion Associate Certification?

Recently I passed the Matillion Associate Certification, Before that I was searching for some blogs which could guide on nature of questions asked but very little resources were available.

Matillion ETL recently made Associate and Partner certification badge available, before that training badges were available. I would recommend completing all the training and hands on labs available to appear for certification badge.

Below are a few insight pointers:

Nature of Exam: Multiple choice questions

Difficulty level: 20% Easy + 50% Medium +30% Complex

Knowledge Level: Must have hands-on experience.

Preparation time: 2–4 hours if you are working on Matillion from 2+ years. Else when you complete syllabus and hands-on properly (Approx 2 weeks).

Exam Pattern and Detailing on Nature of Questions

1. Colours of components output point/line indication is important for scenario based questions. E.g. Job Snippet will be given and question on output for the job once executed can be asked.
2. Transformation job questions were complex. (Basic/advanced/critical type)
3. Project specific vs Instance specific? e.g. SSO, OpenID, User Management, API Profiles, Shared job, Password, tasks, etc
4. Orchestration : Data Stager detailed questions (basic/advanced options) What if the external staging selected for component, If SQL option selected can output columns be selected for output?
5. Orchestration Job : Transaction components question like commit, rollback, Start, Stop, If. These can be scenario based questions.
6. Project Import/Export of job with API possible? Questions on the manual ways/Git commit ways for Deployment?
7. ELT scenario for transformation Job: Difference between ETL vs ELT?
8. Rewrite table/Table Update : which option will work even if the table is not present in the warehouse. Table update Component, what happen if key value is blank.
9. Questions on Components/Functions for Mapping values, Data type Conversions and Data to be partitioned bases on columns.
10. Scheduling of Jobs if Duplicate Jobs are present with same names. Matillion environment default schema behaviour if multiple environments are available.

Sometime answers are in question itself and these questions will be complex, read it completely first and try to relate the keywords like but, may fail, though, however, etc
